Minutes Dragon Core Assessment Committee September 6, 2006 8:00 a.m. Present: Jean Sando, chair; Ellen Brisch, Tim Decker, Ellen Hill, Rajiv Kalra, Mike McCord, Margaret Sankey, Stacy Voeller Spring 2007 Meeting Time: Based on committee member schedules thus far it appears that 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday is the best time to meet during Spring 2007. Those who have not turned in schedules were asked to get them to Sando. CMT Testing Update: Sando reported that 83 of 629 students enrolled in Critical and Multicultural Thinking courses have taken the CMT Skills Course test. It was noted that students from AMCS 100 and ECON 100 have not tested and the Economics sections have the largest block of students. Data gathered from a sample of students will not be beneficial since CMT courses are taught from different areas. Discussion ensued on how to encourage better representation from the various departments offering the courses. Sando has sent an email to faculty teaching CMT courses offering assistance. It was suggested to discuss the lack of participation with academic deans. It was noted that a statement requiring participation in assessment was not explicitly part of the original CMT course proposal form, but these courses received temporary approval and must reapply for Dragon Core designation one year from the date of the initial approval. It was suggested the Participation in Assessment statement on the other Dragon Core proposal form be added to the CMT proposal form. Dragon Core Assessment Policy: The Assessment in the Dragon Core Policy (DRAFT) was reviewed and the following items were discussed:
Editing changes were made and Sando agreed to revise the DRAFT accordingly. It was noted the policy should be distributed in a timely manner to the campus community. National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE): A brief summary of the NSSE survey results were presented by Sando. The results will be posted on the Institutional Research website for review next week. It was noted that the Dragon Core could be a vehicle to bring about positive change in future survey results. Next meeting: Wednesday, September 13, 2006, 8:00 a.m. in LI 120D. The meeting adjourned at 8:47 a.m. |
