Minutes Dragon Core Assessment Committee April 18, 2007 8:00 a.m.
Present: Jean Sando, chair; Ellen Brisch, Tim
Decker, Ellen Hill, Rajiv Kalra, Mike McCord, Margaret Sankey, Brian
Smith Minutes: Moved by Hill, seconded by McCord to approve the March 28, 2007, minutes. The motion was approved unanimously. Memo for Fall Non-Instructional Days: The draft memo was reviewed and minor changes were suggested. Sando stated the memo would be sent this week. It was suggested that a meeting for faculty teaching Critical and Multicultural Thinking (CMT) courses as well as faculty teaching in Dragon Core Competency Area 1A – Oral Communication also hold meetings. IPSEL Working Groups: Sando requested that either the Oral Communication or Mathematics working group change their first meeting date from May 17, 2007, to May 15 or May 16. Both are scheduled to begin work on May 17 and Sando needs to meet with each group for the full day. Brisch noted that the CMT group needs to adjust meeting dates/times to accommodate schedule conflicts for some of the members. The CMT group will continue to meet in HA 107. Written Communication will continue to meet in WE Library, except on May 17 when the group will meet in the CMU. Rooms will be scheduled in the CMU for both Oral Communication and Mathematics. Box lunches are being provided to each group for one meeting date. Discussion of a grading rubric design ensued. A template will be created and reviewed at next week’s meeting. The Student Learning Outcomes rubric for CMT and Written Communication were reviewed. Members are to provide feedback to Sando regarding any discrepancies. Fall Meetings: It was agreed to meet on Mondays at 3:00 p.m. during Fall 2007. Oral Communication Videotaping: Sando reported that videotaping is underway. Discussion ensued on the credibility of the sample since some sections are not participating. It was agreed to track the situation for a pattern. CMT Skills Testing: Sando reported that post-testing information will be distributed this week to students who participated in the spring pre-testing (87 students). Last fall 187 students took the pre-test and 79 of those took the post-test. Participation results and test results will be discussed at the fall CMT meeting. Brisch noted that students who took the pre-test had a better framework for the course and course material than those who did not take the test. The possibility of a testing date each semester and/or incentives other than extra-credit were discussed. It was noted that some institutions offer one free iPod download as an incentive for completing online tests/surveys. Next Meeting:
Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at 8:00 a.m. in LI 120D. |
