Present: Jean Sando, chair; Ellen Brisch, Mike McCord

Absent: Tim Decker, Ellen Hill, Rajiv Kalra, Margaret Sankey, Brian Smith, Stacy Voeller (sabbatical)

Minutes: Due to the lack of a quorum the minutes will be reviewed at the next meeting, March 28, 2007.

Dragon Core Assessment Protocol: Sando reviewed the changes made to the DCA Protocol based on suggests made at the March 7, 2007 Academic Policy Advisory Committee (APAC) meeting. Sando agreed to request comments from those not at the meeting regarding the changes and revised accordingly so it can be placed on the March 27, 2007, APAC agenda.

Course Syllabus Policy: APAC also suggested the Course Syllabus Policy be changed to require faculty to list and address the Foundation Four course(s) Student Learning Outcomes, the Dragon Core Competency Area Student Competencies, and/or Written Communication Student Competencies if the course is also a Writing-Intensive course. A draft statement was reviewed and members are to notify Sando with suggested wording changes. The University Writing Committee will address this issue at their meeting on Friday. Brisch agreed to have the issue reviewed at the next Dragon Core Committee meeting as well. A consensus statement to add to the Course Syllabus Policy will then be recommended to APAC by all three committees.

Fall Orientation: Discussion ensued on a timeframe and structure for Dragon Core assessment activities during Fall Orientation, August 20-24, 2007. It was suggested that four separate panels be formed. Sando agreed to notify departments offering Middle Cluster courses in DC 4-7 to suggest panelists and to work with Jo Berg, Academic Affairs, on scheduling.

CMST Videotaping Consent: Sando distributed and reviewed an “informed consent” form for use in Communication Studies 100 courses. It was suggest the form be less intense and not exceed one-page in length. Sando agreed to draft a revised version for review at the next meeting.

NCA Visit: Discussion opened on the NCA Visit and any comments/suggestions that the Site Evaluators made regarding Dragon Core and/or Dragon Core assessment. Sando noted it was indicated that MSUM continue to maintain assessment activities on campus, through DCAC and SLOAC with administrative and budgetary support, will be suggested in the final report.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 8:00 a.m. in LI 120D.
