Mathematics Options

The following are approved options to satisfy Competency Area 3 – Mathematics / Symbolic Systems.

Option 1 – Standard: Students take MATH 102, the DRAGON CORE Foundation Course.
Option 2: Students enrolled in the Corrick Center may substitute CCGE 119 for MATH 102.

  • Students choosing Option 1 or Option 2 may count any one course completed from Category A or Category B, under Option 3, as a Middle Cluster course in Competency Area 3 Mathematics / Symbolic Systems.

Option 3: Students take one course from Category A and one course from Category B:

       Category A: CCGE 123, MATH 105 or 127 or 142 or 143 or 229 or 261 or 262
       Category B: MATH 234 or 236 or 244 or 335

  • The second course in Option 3 counts as a Middle Cluster course in Competency Area 3 – Mathematics / Symbolic Systems.

NOTE: Many majors / degree programs require students to take specific courses to fulfill mathematics requirements. Students should consult The Bulletin and their advisor regarding specific course requirements. It is also important that students are aware of sequencing of mathematics courses, for example MATH 127 should be taken prior to MATH 143 or MATH 229 or MATH 234.

Placement Guidelines: To support student success ad to meet the requirements of MnSCU Board Policy 3.3.1, Minnesota State University Moorhead has developed a Course Placement Testing Policy for assessing new entering students' skills.
