University committees have a defined membership prescribed and established by mutual agreement with the faculty associations and the administration. Alcohol and College Life (22)				Reports to: President
Description: Develops, implements and evaluates social norms and environmental management programs designed to reduce AOD misuse among students. Gathers and monitors AOD data at MSUM (e.g. CORE survey and/or other data gathering instruments). Analyzes student AOD data and impact on academic success. Prepares the biennial University report for compliance with the 1989 amendments to the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act as articulated in Part 86 of the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Regulations. Review and recommend AOD policy. Distance Education (14)				Reports to: Vice President for Academic Affairs
Description: Serves as an advisory and recommending group for distance education at MSUM. It will be responsible for recommending a structure for the design, delivery, marketing and funding of high quality distance education opportunities at MSUM. Recommendations must be consistent with the MnSCU - IFO Collective Bargaining Agreement and MnSCU policy. Will develop and propose standards for designing, implementing, delivering, assessing, and ensuring continuous improvement of online programs and courses at MSUM. Diversity/Affirmative Action (15)				Reports to: President
Description: Monitors existing diversity efforts and the status of the University with regard to diversity objectives; monitors and updates the Racial and Ethnic Diversity Plan; evaluates events and programs to determine how well they meet MSUMâ€™s diversity goals; and develops a method for awarding and disbursing Diversity Events funds. When appropriate, recommends to the President that a Diversity Task Force be formed to develop the next Racial and Ethnic Diversity Plan. Advises the President regarding affirmative action/equal opportunity matters, reports problem areas and recommends needed corrective action, and serves as a channel to communicating affirmative action/equal opportunity concerns to MSUM administration. The chairperson is responsible for requesting the Office of the President for time during an academic year Administrative Council meeting to permit the Athletic Department Compliance Officer to present the Title IX in athletics annual report. Members of this committee, bargaining unit presidents, and the Faculty Athletics Representative will be invited to the Title IX report presentation. Dragon Core (13)				Reports to: APAC
Description: Oversees the Dragon Core component of the curriculum. Revises and recommends courses for Dragon Core Designation. Receives assessment data from the Dragon Core Assessment process. Reviews and evaluates the data, and works with departments, deans and APAC. Oversees the phase out of the Liberal Studies Program. Membership: One Dean, the Assistant Vice President for Assessment, two students, and nine faculty. The nine faculty should consist of: one faculty from each college (4); one each from the Corrick Center, the Library, the University Writing Committee, Diversity or Global Studies, and one faculty member at large.

Dragon Core Assessment (9)				Reports to: Vice President for Academic Affairs
Description: Conducts assessment of Dragon Core, the universityâ€™s general education curriculum. Gathers assessment data from instructors teaching Dragon Core courses (as specified by the Dragon Core assessment reporting cycle), analyzes the data collected, and makes recommendations regarding the curriculumâ€™s success in achieving Student Outcomes. The Dragon Core Assessment Committee (DCAC) may consult with ad hoc working groups composed of faculty with specialized training in each of the Competency Areas. The working groups would gather and process raw data and report to the DCAC. At the end of each academic year, the DCAC sends a report to the Dragon Core Committee and Vice-President for Academic Affairs. Membership: Assistant Vice President for Assessment, chair; one faculty from Arts and Humanities, one faculty from Business and Industry, one faculty from Education and Human Services, one faculty from Social and Natural Sciences, one faculty from the Corrick Center for General Education, one faculty from the library, two members of the Dragon Core Committee, and one student. Financial Aid and Suspension Appeals (10)		Reports to: Vice Presidents for Academic and Student Affairs
Description: Reviews and determines a student's appeal of his/her eligibility to receive financial aid. If appealed, the decision will be reviewed by the Vice President for Student Affairs, whose decision will be final. This committee also reviews appeals of decisions made by the Director of Academic Support Programs on requests for early reinstatement from students who are on academic suspension and approves or denies the appeals in each case and makes recommendations for further action when deemed appropriate. The Vice President for Academic Affairs, or his/her designee, may review a committee decision upon written request. Graduate Council (varies)				Reports to: APAC
Description: Monitors the scope, direction and integrity of the University's Graduate Programs; recommends policies, procedures, course and curriculum changes to the APAC; and makes recommendations regarding membership on the graduate faculty. Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (10)				Reports to: Vice President for Academic Affairs
Description: Assists departments in revising and maintaining departmental/programmatic assessment plans for majors and graduate programs; reviews all assessment of student learning outcomes plans and reports, and makes recommendations to the dean/director for approval and action; prepares and makes available an annual report on the Universityâ€™s progress with regard to assessing student learning outcomes and continuous improvement in curriculum and student learning. Description: The Committee will serve as an advisory board for the University Writing Director, supporting that person in establishing and maintaining a writing-across-the-curriculum program. In addition, it will review course proposals for applicants seeking Writing Intensive (WI) designation for those courses before the proposals are presented to APAC. If the proposal also seeks Dragon Core designation, the course proposal goes to the University Writing (UW) Committee before going to the Dragon Core Committee.
