Division of Administrative Affairs
Mission Statement:
The Division of Administrative Affairs mission is to
provide an environment that supports personal and professional development,
that welcomes cultural diversity and that develops the skills and talents of
individuals so that they have the capacity to live usefully, act
responsibly, and be learners all their lives.
The Administrative Affairs Division strives to enhance
the quality of life of the campus, community and region, by supporting the
professional, cultural, and recreational services offered by MSU?s students,
faculty and staff.
The Division will continue to develop administrative
arrangements, through teamwork and cooperation among departments, which make
possible the efficient use of funds, facilities and human resources.
The Division strives to offer high quality resources,
products, and services to its internal and external customers; that is,
students, parents, faculty, administrators, staff members, alumni, retirees,
employers of our graduates, and community members.
The Division strives to provide a safe, supportive
environment, characterized by open communication, personal attention, and
respect for and recognition of individual contributions and needs.
Goals
- To promote the intellectual and personal
development of our students and colleagues.
- To provide support personnel, facilities,
products, and resources that enhance and complement the academic
experience, by utilizing sound business practices and customer-friendly
processes.
- To provide support and strengthen all
departments, programs, activities, and services which are essential to
the mission of the University.
- To provide support, and strengthen programs,
services, and activities which meet the needs of non-academic student
life.
- To provide support and encouragement for employee
development including continuing education, creative activity, research
and public service that enriches the individual, and the institution,
and that promotes the educational and economic development of the
service region.
- To recognize team achievements and individual
contributions.
- To let the reputation of the division be
sustained by providing necessary resources and timely services.
- To set the standard for excellence by continually
refining and improving administrative services.
Administrative Affairs Division
Goal 1: Communication
- Mission Statement
- Goals have been drafted. We need to develop
assessment measures
- Transitions into the University and into
careers
We hire several student employees who are
working in areas related to their majors:
Honors Apprentices -- excellent history
Accounting Majors
Programmers, etc., in the Computer Center
Construction Management majors working in the
Physical Plant
Many of our student employees learn about job
expectations, time management, and personal relations. Most have
specific duties and must be at work for specified periods of time.
- Improve Advising
Most of the advising is job related,
especially on relating to others and advancing their job related
skills.
- Improve Marketing
Considerable emphasis:
1. 4th of July event: significant growth. We will
request both personnel and financial support.

3. Dragon Train and Barrel
Rides
Request for a trailer, which will also
serve as a marketing tool for MSU
4. The Bookstore supports
several University events and area grade school carnivals
5. We sponsor a CEP (Concentrated
Employment Program) workers every summer; 30 to 40 junior high
students
Goal 2: Collaboration
- Internships and other ties to the business
community
Currently, we have internships in Human
Resources and have had internships in the Business Office, Physical
Plant and Computer Service. Yvonne Johnson will be asked to attend
an Administrative Affairs Division Directors meeting to discuss
internships.
We will request funding to establish an
expanded internship program within the division.
- Other Collaborations: Fundraising, Alumni,
Community Building
- Many of the activities listed in Goal 1
also apply under Goal 2.
Examples include web page development for
graduates in the Twin Cities and expanded Bookstore promotions.
- The July 4th event has 10
service clubs and 187 businesses that provide prizes and
financial support. Many of the vendors and contractors serving
MSU support this event.

- Better understanding of our competition

natural gas usage. After eight years, the University should
begin to save up to $400,000 per year.
