STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE FOCUS GROUP SUMMARY
DATE: 10-26 TIME: 8am PLACE: cmu 214 FACILITATOR: Richard Bynum NOTE-TAKER: Mark RiceSTRATEGIC GOAL: IMPROVE COMMUNICATION
1. Based upon any information you have, how would you evaluate Moorhead State?s internal and external communication? Improve communication to graduates, faculty and local businesses Better association of Univ and MnSCU- National recognition Rely on on retirees and solicit their opinion Clean up house. Streamline system Students say "MSU does not have act together" Seems to be a push for "new" without regard to current system can do (new admin computer applications, changes in physical plant, etc?) Need to stress the importance of Web Page and use as a source of information 2. In looking at the objectives for this goal, which are the most important and why? We need to communicate better the needs of campus by using existing systems to provide the services needed and holding those with this responsibility accountable. In recent years the strategic goal initiatives seems to have been delayed in the implementation or not funded adequately. 3. Are there any objectives that were not listed by the strategic planning committee that should have been included? 1. Streamline our internal structure 2. Establish the person accountable for the educational/administrative process and improve our communication with that person 4. What measurable outcomes should be targeted regarding the objective given first priority by your group? Even more delegation of responsibilities to the Deans Office and improve on our current communication process which involves too much distribution of items through the mail. 5. What measurable outcomes should be targeted regarding the objective given second priority by your group? Create a "real" master calendar of all dates, buildings and events for the year. Create a "real" scheduling office (not one for union, one for classrooms, etc) for the entire campus. Create a "real" directory of persons to contact for various things. "One number does all" has not caught on through entire campus Get some "real" money in our advertising budget. Current amount is small compared to Concordia and NDSU. Improve the communication skills of MSU to the outside world. Even with voice-mail (which is impersonal) a "thank-you" for calling MSU may needed at the start of the message! |
