STRATEGIC GOAL: INCREASE COLLABORATION

 

  1. Based upon any information you have, how would you evaulate Moorhead State?s performance to increase collaboration?

     

Begun, but decidedly lacking.

 

2. In looking at the objectives for this goal, which are the most important and why?

Modified Objective #1: Increase collaboration with business community, area schools, MNSCU, tri-college and community organizations and among units on campus.

Objective #3: Improve ties to MSU Alumni.

  1. Are there any objectives not listed by the strategic planning committee that should have been included?

     

  • Try to work more closely with area schools to improve recruitment.
  • Further development of school ties for teacher preparation.
  • More active collaboration among MSU community outreach programs such as the Science Center and the Center for the Arts. We should present a united front as to what MSU is presenting to the community.
  • Academic Service Learning - create opportunities to work with community members in determining community needs.
  • Ties to the business community
  • Continue and expand things such as: accounting majors helping elderly with taxes, work with NW Tech in the arts and sciences as well as other area MNSCU schools, Tri-college.
  1. What measurable outcomes should be targeted regarding the objective given first priority by your group?

     

  • increase internship opportunities
  • establishment & maintenance of best practice sites
  • improve recruitment in area of future secondary teachers
  • new outreach activities
  • develop new community sites to increase paid internships
  • personnel in place to provide post-graduate support to area teachers including MSU graduates
  • increase # of service-learning opportunities particularly in non-traditional areas
  • establish faculty internship program
  • invite business people here for advanced training
  • target retirees/baby boomers
  • Tri-College Service Learning Council to maximize service learning opportunities

Emphasize general community building on campus

  • locations where faculty/staff can visit
  • faculty/staff dining room
  • book discussion groups (10-12 people meet once a month)
  • conduct mentoring program for faculty interested in service learning
  • faculty/staff discussion groups as appropriate for discipline
  • increase collaborative grant proposals as a result of support for grant writers
  • establish annual poster session for faculty on campus
  1. What measurable outcomes should be targeted regarding the objective given second priority by your group?

     

  • Establish and maintain a current database of alumni, including occupation, place of business, address & phone numbers in addition to home information.
  • Use alumni ties as a base on which to increase collaboration in the community (see #4 above) as well as other objectives (see #3 above)
