Increase Collaboration
  1. We could do better. Good ideas sometimes happen, sometimes do not. Seems to be lack of carry over. We are well intentioned but unable to make best ideas come to fruition. We need to work on increasing the number of internships available to students. We should do more fundraising. How successful have past fundraising practices been. Include lessons learned in previous fundraising efforts. Focus on a couple of things. Time is a factor for everyone. If we are going to try something new, we have to give release time to get it done. On a scale of 1-10 we would get about a 5.

We need an assembly time similar to when we were on the quarter system. We have to incorporate time management skills so that extra responsibilities can be fulfilled.
Who is responsible for meeting these goals once they are initiated? Are departments responsible? Are committees responsible?

  1. Objectives are connected so if we improve on one, others will be improved. The first three objectives are external. The fourth is internal.

We should send MSU personnel out to make ties with the community. Faculty lack enthusiasm to do #4 objective. We need enthusiasm so that

Objectives #1, 2 and 3 can be accomplished.

Barriers exist to Objective #4. An example of a barrier is faculty have to be pressured to be more involved in campus activities. Concordia does a much better job of this. It seems to be inherent in their jobs.

Objective #1 - perhaps the word business should be removed.

Collaboration like tri-college can be expanded. Collaborate with other state schools.

Smash paradigm ? mold ourselves to the future.

Divide class/advising/research in other ways to better utilize our time.

Define sources/agencies/schools/departments/other units open to collaboration

Examine collaboration internally between student and academic affairs.

    Have centralized event coordination

Collaboration in the Twin Cities area - what program?

Establish relationships with organizations. Leverage equipment with donations.

    Articulate collaboration on MSU campus
  2. Other Objectives
    Divide teaching/advising/research activities

Expand tri-college, regional, state collaboration. Establish partnerships with other schools.

The focus group chose the following two objectives. Objective #5 was created by the focus group.
  3. Emphasize general community building on campus. Keep better track of events and attendance.

    Reduce the number of committees

    Introduce convocation hour

Academic/student affairs collaboration. Identify overlapping areas.

Senior experiences, senior leadership, capstone experience.

    Interdisciplinary teams to do outreach

    Collaboration/projects/activities/courses between departments

    Space utilization
  4. Tri-college/region/state collaboration

    Graduate nursing program

Tri-college graduate programs; e.g. theatre arts and others

    Tri-college college events

Identify areas of collaboration with tri-college and other regional neighbors

    Tri-college recruitment in Twin Cities

Collaboration with higher education feeder schools in the Twin Cities area
