Suspension FAQ

- How do I file an appeal?

- Will my appeal be approved?
Each appeal is reviewed on its own merits. Be sure to include a complete, honest statement relating the information requested on the form. There is no pre-determined quota for approvals vs denials, everyone who appeals will have a fair hearing.

- What if my appeal is denied?
You will need to serve out your term of suspension. You may return to MSUM after successful application for Readmission. You cannot attend another MnSCU institution, nor most 4-year institutions, when suspended at MSUM.

- What if my appeal is approved?
You may return to MSUM the following semester. If you have been away for a partial term of suspension, you will need to fill out the Readmit form in the Records office.

Approved appeals always have conditions which the student must meet upon their return to MSUM. These conditions are provided to the student in written form.

An approved appeal still counts as one suspension, resulting in a longer subsequent suspension if the student's return is unsuccessful.

Parents, remember that the Federal privacy laws (FERPA) prohibit the University from releasing confidential information including grades and academic standing, to anyone but the student. Students must contact MSUM directly about their own academic status.
