The Campus Directory lists names, addresses, and telephone numbers of students, faculty, and staff is published fall semester by the Publications Office. The information for the directory comes directly from computer listings. Therefore, students are responsible for getting correct information to the Records Office if there are changes in names or addresses within two weeks of the beginning of fall semester. Each student gets one free student directory. They are distributed to on-campus students through the residence halls and to off-campus students at the Compass. (See also Student Records/FERPA.) The Directory is on-line on MSUM’s home page.

If you DO NOT wish to have your name included in the student directory, you MUST inform the Records Office no later than the 10th class day of fall semester.

CMU – The Etcetera Shop will cash out-of-town checks for up to $25 (picture ID required). Hornbachers – This nearby supermarket will cash out-of-town checks with two forms of picture ID (conditional) up to $20 above the purchase price.

MSUM operates a child care center with certified early childhood teachers for children between 16 months and 6 years of age. The Early Education Center is licensed by the State of Minnesota and accredited by the NAEYC. Varied learning activities are provided, including planned individual and group experiences, swimming, and field trips appropriate for the age level of the children. The Early Education Center is located in Lommen Hall and is open from 7:30am - 5:30pm. The center is closed for the summer. Contact the Early Education Center for further information.

The MSUM wireless network is an extension of the campus network that provides students, faculty, and staff with 802.11b and 802.11g compatible wireless access to the campus network and the internet. Not all facilities currently have wireless access, but over time wireless access is expected to be available all over campus.

Information Technology maintains over 900 computers in 58 computer labs, which are used for classrooms and general student use. All labs have laser printers. Unless otherwise stated, classroom labs are available for general student use when not scheduled for a class. Policy for Student Web Servers (SWS) & Support
This web server is for MSUM students and recent alumni only. Only currently registered students may apply for a web server account. Tri-College students may have a web account as long as they are registered at MSUM. Graduates may have their web accounts for one year after graduation. Accounts for students who do not return and have not graduated will be removed. An MSUM email account is required.

Space is limited and quotas will be enforced. If files are found to consume excessive disk space or access to pages causes excessive network activity, a member of the Information Technology staff will contact the owner to determine the appropriate course of action. In all cases, however, we will take concrete steps to protect resources and the rights of other users.

Intellectual property ownership applies unless otherwise officially documented. Individual students who are provided a SWS account are the copyright owners of any content created strictly for such pages.

University trademarks are copyrighted. Use of trademarks must follow copyright laws.

Account names will be sws.mnstate.edu/account name. Each home page must have the name and e-mail address of the person responsible for the pages. 

Client-Side scripting (JavaScript, VBScript, etc) is allowed. Server side scripting (CGI programs, Perk, etc) is not allowed.

Users may not have inappropriate material on their pages. Inappropriate material includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Any information that violates any MSUM policies, software licensing agreements, contractual agreements, copyright or local or federal laws.

• Any material intended for business use or to generate personal financial gain.

• Commercial advertising of any kind, including banner ads for free services.

• Information that is designed to compromise the security or availability of MSUM resources.

• Material that provides information that is intended to teach how to commit any criminal or illegal acts.

• Information that comprises the personal privacy of other people.

• Any misleading labeling of links.

• Portrayal of any material as officially representing or sanctioned by MSUM without proper authorization.

Home pages may be monitored. MSUM reserves the right to unlink any page from the student web server at any time. Notification to author will be attempted but MSUM reserves the right to unlink without notification to the author.

The Student Conduct Committee is responsible for reviewing violations of this policy statement.

The Dragon Card is your form of identification as a MSUM student. The Dragon Card is used for Library operations, access to buildings, Dragon Dollars, theatre events, music events, athletic events, and student activities. MSUM is proud to announce a partnership has been established with US Bank that will allow the Dragon Identification card to have a debit card option. It is also useful as local identification and is often required to obtain government rates at motels when traveling.

Dragon Cards may be obtained at the Dragon Card office, 2nd floor of the Library. Your first Dragon Card is free, but there is a fee for a replacement card. Dragon Cards are automatically updated each time you register so that you do not need to get a new one each semester.

Employment on-campus
Information & Guidelines

Employment for student on-campus is an effective and beneficial means to earn income but students are not to start work until cleared for payroll and issued a timesheet.  Students need to provide specific original documentation when filling out payroll setup forms. Items addressed to a person or room or from an identified office, department, or organization will be placed in a residence hall mailbox. Mail to residents in the residence halls must have the hall listed. Items not addressed to a person or room must be imprinted with the name of the office, department or organization.


Students living on campus receive their mail through the residence halls. Students living in the residence halls should have their mail addressed as follows:

Off-campus students should receive their mail at their place of residence. All incoming mail must be addressed to a particular person and building, not just the University. There is a post office located on the first floor of MacLean Hall that provides limited postal services.

All motor vehicles parked on the MSUM campus must have a current, valid parking permit. Faculty/staff, commuter, and student resident annual parking permits may be purchased in the Parking Office, located at 1616 9th Avenue South in the Parking/Security building, between the hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. You must know the vehicle license plate number to register your vehicle. Temporary permits are also available for a weekly fee. Current copies of the Traffic and Parking Regulations handbook are available in the Parking Office.

Permits for Guests/Visitors: Guest permits may be obtained from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday at the Parking Office located in the Maintenance Building  709 17th St. S. (phone 477-2675) or after 4:30 PM and on weekends from the Campus Security Office (phone 477-2449). Guest permits/visitors passes may override parking meters in lots V-1, V-2, V-3, and V-5 as specified on the individual permit.

You may also be eligible for disability cervices, personal counseling, tutorial assistance, financial aid, or VA Funded work-study. MSUM has two resources on campus to help guide the Veteran through all the benefit information. The Veteran Resource Center is your one-stop-shop for all military benefits. The center has space for studying, work-study and is a place to socialize with fellow Veterans. Hours are posted on the website. Please call or stop by for more information.

The Certifying official, located in room 201 of the Livingston Library, will assist you with certification of your benefits. If you need further information, please call, stop in, or log on.
