Financial aid may be available from one of the following programs:
grants
scholarships
work study
loans
grants

The Federal Pell Grant, Academic Competitiveness (ACG), SMART Grant, the Minnesota
State Grant Program, and the Federal Supplemental Educational
Opportunity Grant (SEOG) are the major gift aid programs available
to students at MSUM. Grants do not have to be repaid and are
provided to students whose FAFSA results show need. Grants are
limited to students seeking their first undergraduate degree. Pell, ACG and SMART
Grant payments to eligible students are based on the number of
credits at the 30th calendar day of the semester.
SEOG is available to Pell eligible students who apply
before February 15. Minnesota residents must submit the FAFSA prior
to the 30th calendar day of the first enrollment term to
be considered for Minnesota Grant.

The MSUM Alumni Foundation offers
scholarships recognizing outstanding abilities in academics, special
talent, achievement, leadership, and athletics. Upper-class
scholarships are available to students upon completion of 12
or more MSUM credits with a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Application forms
are available from the Scholarship Office website. Awards for
special talent in art, music, theatre, and athletics have separate
applications and awarding criteria. These departments should be
contacted directly.
Access to an on-line
scholarship service is available from the MSUM home page on the web
at
www.fastweb.com. The search takes 30-45 minutes and provides a
list of organizations and agencies that offer scholarships based on
the student’s personal profile.

Athletic Scholarships
Athletic scholarships are available
to MSUM student athletes. Recipients and amount are determined by
head coaches and approved by the Athletic Director. A standard
financial assistance agreement form is signed when scholarships are
committed.
Athletic scholarships are awarded to freshman and upper-class students who demonstrate
exceptional athletic talent. For more information on athletic

work study

This program allows students with
financial need to work part time on campus. The minimum wage is $7
per hour and a student can work up to 15 hours per week. Wide
varieties of jobs are available. Information on job openings and
department contact people is available at the
Job Shop or Dragonjobs.

loans

Student loans are available from
Federal, State and banking resources. Loans must be repaid in
compliance with the terms of the promissory note.
To be eligible for Direct Loans you must:
• Be accepted for enrollment in a degree program or
certificate program.
• Be registered at least half-time at the time the loan
proceeds are disbursed.
• Not be in default on any other type of student loan.
• Not owe a repayment on a student grant.
• Not be on financial aid/academic suspension.
• File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for
the appropriate academic year.

As an applicant for, or recipient of, student aid, certain rights should be exercised and certain responsibilities must be met. Knowing what they are helps students make decisions about educational goals and how to achieve them. Receiving at more than one school 
Students receive financial aid funds only from the school designated as the home campus (usually where the students is receiving a degree). Accepting financial aid funds from more than one school for the same semester is prohibited.
