Employment of special education teachers is expected to increase faster than average for all occupations through 2014 due to:

    • Increased number of students needing services
    • Legislation emphasizing training
    • Employment for individuals with disabilities
    • Education reforms requiring higher standards for graduation
    • Replacement of teachers who leave the field

MSU Moorhead is one of few Minnesota institutions offering coursework leading to five Minnesota special education licensures. Teacher candidates declare a Special Education option in their sophomore year.

The following undergraduate and graduate programs are available at MSUM:

    • Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD)
    • Developmental Disabilities (DD)
    • Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD)

These programs are available at the graduate-level only:

    • Early Childhood Special Education
